PayPal
Connect your PayPal Business account to get paid for sales orders through PayPal. You send your customer a pay link from the order. They pay on a SKU.io pay page with PayPal, and the payment is recorded on the order for you. Refunds, disputes and payment reversals come back to the order too.
Today you connect an account with your PayPal app's API keys. Connect with PayPal, where you sign in to PayPal instead of pasting keys, is coming soon. When it arrives you can switch an existing account over and keep its pay links and payment history.
Before you begin: you need a PayPal Business account, access to developer.paypal.com with that account, and the Integrations → Manage permission in SKU.io. The full list is in Connect PayPal with your API keys.
What PayPal does in SKU.io
| When… | SKU.io… |
|---|---|
| You send a pay link from a sales order | Gives your customer a pay page for the amount you chose, either the full balance or a deposit. You email the link or copy it |
| Your customer pays | Records the payment on the order with the payment type PayPal Payment, and keeps PayPal's fee on the payment |
| You refund from the order | Sends the money back through PayPal and records the refund on the order |
| Someone refunds a pay-link payment on paypal.com | Records that refund on the order too |
| A customer opens a dispute, or PayPal reverses a payment | Adds a note to the order's activity. The order's balance doesn't change, so settle it yourself |
PayPal's fee is stored on the payment, but it isn't posted to QuickBooks or Xero. Record fees in your accounting software yourself.
PayPal works on sales orders only. It doesn't take payments at the point of sale.
Where to find it
Go to Apps & Integrations → All Integrations and choose PayPal under Payment Processors. The PayPal panel lists your accounts under Instances; click one to open it. Add Instance on the panel opens the PayPal page, which shows every account as a card with its status, and is where you add a new account.

You can add several PayPal accounts, for example one for each store. Open an account to see its tabs:
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Account | The connection, its status, and the account's API keys |
| Pay Links | Every pay link sent from this account, and its status |
| Transactions | Your PayPal activity, imported and matched to orders |
| Webhook Events | The instant updates PayPal sends to SKU.io |
On a sales order, PayPal appears on the Payments tab: the PayPal Pay Link button, the PayPal Pay Links list for that order, and each PayPal payment with its PayPal fee.
Set up PayPal
- Connect a PayPal account with Sandbox keys, and send yourself a test pay link from a test order.
- Add a separate PayPal account with your Live keys. Don't switch the Sandbox account to Live: payments taken under the old keys can no longer be refunded from SKU.io.
- Turn on Transaction search in your PayPal app, so SKU.io can reconcile your PayPal activity every night.
- Map the PayPal Payment type in QuickBooks or Xero.
- Check the PayPal Payment Request email template in Settings → Email Templates.
- Send your first pay link.
