Stripe
Connect your Stripe account to get paid for sales orders through Stripe. You send your customer a Stripe invoice from the order. Stripe emails it, and your customer pays it on Stripe's invoice page with any payment method you've turned on in Stripe. The payment is recorded on the order for you, and refunds come back to the order too.
You connect by signing in to Stripe. There are no keys to copy.
Before you begin: you need a Stripe account, or you can create one while you connect, and the Integrations → Manage permission in SKU.io. See Connect Stripe.
What Stripe does in SKU.io
| When… | SKU.io… |
|---|---|
| You send a Stripe invoice from a sales order | Creates the invoice in your Stripe account for the order total, or an amount you choose, and Stripe emails it to your customer. You can also copy its link and send it yourself |
| Your customer pays | Records the payment on the order with the payment type Stripe Payment, and updates the order's payment status |
| You refund from SKU.io, or in your Stripe Dashboard | Records the refund on the order, and the order shows Partially Refunded or Refunded |
| You void an invoice | Cancels it on Stripe, so the customer can no longer pay it |
| Every day | Checks your open invoices and your account details against Stripe, in case an update was missed |
Stripe's fees aren't recorded in SKU.io. The payment on the order is what your customer paid. Record Stripe's fees in your accounting software yourself.
Stripe invoices bill sales orders. To charge cards at the point of sale, see Sell at the point of sale.
Where to find it
Go to Apps & Integrations → All Integrations and choose Stripe under Payment Processors. The panel lists your accounts under Instances; click one to open it. Add Instance on the panel opens the Stripe page, which shows every account as a card with its status, and is where you add a new account.
You can add several Stripe accounts, for example one for each store. Open an account to see its tabs:
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Account | The connection, its status, and what Stripe has turned on for the account |
| Invoices | Every invoice sent from this account, with what was paid and refunded |
| Webhook Events | The updates Stripe sends to SKU.io, and whether each was applied |
| Sync | The daily check against Stripe |
On a sales order, Stripe appears on the Payments tab: Send Stripe Invoice in the Add Payment menu, each open invoice with its link, and each Stripe payment with its Refund button.
Set up Stripe
- Connect a Stripe account. Connect in test mode first if you want to try it, then connect your live account as a separate Stripe account in SKU.io.
- Check that the account shows Active. If it shows Pending verification, finish your business details in your Stripe Dashboard.
- In your Stripe Dashboard, turn on the payment methods your customers can use, such as cards and bank transfers.
- After your first Stripe payment, map the Stripe Payment payment type in QuickBooks or Xero, like any other payment method. See Sync payments with your accounting provider.
- Send your first Stripe invoice.
