Repairs & Warranty: Outside vendors & supplier recovery
Not every piece gets fixed on your own bench. When a jeweller, repair shop or plater does the work, SKU.io tracks what you sent them, what it's costing you, and when it's due back — and when a defect is the supplier's fault rather than wear and tear, it builds the paper trail to charge the cost back to them.
Two separate flows live in this section. Sending work out turns a supplier into a repair vendor and tracks every piece you send them through to receipt. Supplier recovery is unrelated to vendors in the outside-repairer sense — it's about charging a different supplier (the one who made or sold the faulty piece) for what their defect cost you.
| To… | Go to… |
|---|---|
| mark a supplier as a repair vendor and send them pieces to fix or replate | Set up and send units to a repair vendor |
| track a dispatch through shipping, the vendor's portal, and receiving it back | Manage a vendor dispatch |
| charge a supplier for the pieces or the repairs their defect caused | Recover warranty costs from a supplier |
Two different "suppliers"
It's easy to conflate these, because both use the word supplier:
- A repair vendor is a supplier you pay to work on a piece — a plater, a jeweller, a repair shop. You send them units; they send them back fixed, and you pay their fee.
- A recovery claim target is a supplier you're charging back — usually the one you bought the faulty piece or component from in the first place. No piece travels anywhere; it's a credit or a free replacement.
The same company could, in principle, be both — a supplier you buy from and also send repairs to — but the two activities (Vendor dispatches and Supplier recovery) are entirely separate tabs under Orders → Repairs, with their own records and their own money trail.
