Choose where sends ship from
Your own warehouses and 3PLs are the sources the Send Planner sends from. By default, any source can ship to any network. Set lanes when only some warehouses should supply a network, or when one warehouse should be used before another, and choose which sources also ship the orders you fulfill yourself.
Before you begin
- You need the Send Planner → Edit permission.
- Every active warehouse of type warehouse or 3PL is a source unless it's excluded from planning or you stock it by transfer. See Leave a warehouse out of the plan and Stock your own warehouses and 3PLs by transfer.
Set the lanes for each network
-
Go to Inventory → Send Planner and open the Network rules tab.
-
Scroll to Ship-from lanes and sources. There's a row per source warehouse and a column per network. Each network's column header reads Ships · Use order.

-
In a network's column, tick each source that may ship to it, and untick the ones that may not.
-
Type a Use order number next to each ticked source, from 1 to 1000. Use order 1 is used first. The number is greyed out while the box is unticked.
noteA lane's Use order decides which source ships first. A network's Priority on its card, and in product overrides, is a share weight instead: higher gets more of short stock. See Set network rules.
-
Click Save changes at the top of the tab.
With no lane enabled, any source may ship. A network you've never set lanes for shows every source ticked, numbered in the order the sources are listed.
How the plan uses lanes
- A network's send is filled source by source, in use order. When the first source can't cover it, the next one adds the rest.
- A send split between sources ships whole cases from each, and each source becomes its own shipment draft. A split never leaves a source with less than the network's Smallest send.
- Networks with fewer allowed sources are filled first, so a network with one lane isn't starved by a network that could ship from anywhere.
- If the allowed sources can't cover a network's need, the send is trimmed and the line is flagged Source-limited. Allow another source, or move stock to an allowed one.
- A lane to a warehouse that isn't a source in the plan, because it's excluded from planning or stocked by transfer, supplies nothing.
Which source ships each send is shown in a SKU's Why these numbers drawer. For details, read See why a SKU gets its quantity.
Walmart WFS: until you set WFS lanes yourself, the default source warehouse in your WFS replenishment settings is the WFS lane. See Set network rules.
Demand Planning has its own warehouse-to-warehouse routes, in its distribution network, which plan transfers between your own warehouses. Send Planner lanes only say which of your warehouses ship to a fulfillment network, or to a warehouse you stock by transfer from the planner. The two are set separately and don't affect each other. See Plan replenishment across warehouses.
Choose which sources ship self-fulfilled orders
The planner keeps stock back for the orders you ship yourself (see Keep for self-fulfilled orders (days) in Set network rules). Ships self-fulfilled orders decides which warehouses that stock is kept at.
- In Ship-from lanes and sources, find the Ships self-fulfilled orders column.
- Leave it on for each warehouse that ships your web store, wholesale and other self-fulfilled orders. It says Keep self-fulfilled stock here first.
- Switch it off for a warehouse that only ships to the networks, for example a 3PL that only prepares FBA shipments. It says Network stock only.
- Click Save changes.
The stock kept for your own orders is taken from the switched-on warehouses first, which leaves more at the others to send to the networks. Every source starts switched on.
On a phone or tablet, the table becomes one card per source, with the switch at the top and a row per network under Ships to and Use order.
Leave a warehouse out of the plan
To keep a warehouse out of the Send Planner completely, turn on its Exclude from Purchasing / Demand Planning setting:
- Open the warehouse under Contacts → Warehouses. On the Network rules tab you can also click a warehouse's name.
- Open its Settings tab.
- Switch on Exclude from Purchasing / Demand Planning.
- Click Save.
What it does in the planner depends on the warehouse:
| Warehouse | Effect in the Send Planner |
|---|---|
| Your own warehouse or 3PL | It stops being a source and can't be stocked by transfer either. Its stock isn't shared with the networks, and it disappears from Ship-from lanes and sources. Under Stock your own warehouses it shows Excluded from planning, with its switch greyed out. The setting's caption on the warehouse says so: "For your own warehouse or 3PL, the Send Planner stops sending from it and can't stock it by transfer." |
| A marketplace warehouse (Amazon FBA or AWD, Walmart WFS, TikTok FBT) | The planner stops planning sends to it, and it has no column in the plan. |
The same setting also keeps the warehouse's stock from reducing suggested supplier order quantities in Demand Planning. See Create & edit a warehouse.
When a marketplace warehouse is excluded, Network rules lists it in a note that starts "Not planned (excluded from planning in warehouse settings)", with each warehouse name linked to its settings. To plan sends to it again, switch Exclude from Purchasing / Demand Planning back off.
