Tune the plan
Tune plan lets you ask "what if?" of the plan you're looking at, without changing your Network rules. Raise a network's target, change who wins when stock is short, keep more back for your own orders, or count stock that's on its way. The grid shows the effect straight away in purple. Nothing is saved until you choose: apply it to the working plan, save it as a scenario to compare later, or throw it away.
Before you begin
- You need a calculated plan. Before the first one, Tune plan is greyed out with Calculate a plan first.
- Anyone who can view the plan can preview. To apply the tuning or save it as a scenario, you need the Send Planner → Edit permission.
- You tune the working plan. On a scenario, the drawer says You are viewing a scenario, which is read-only. Switch to the working plan to tune it.
Tune and preview
- Go to Inventory → Send Planner.
- Click Tune plan. The Tune this plan drawer opens on the right.
- Under Networks, change what you want to try for each network:
- Turn a network's switch off to leave it out. It shows Not planned — this network gets nothing.
- Change its Target cover, in days.
- Change its Priority when short.
- Under Keep for self-fulfilled orders, change the days of demand kept back for the orders you ship yourself.
- Under Count stock on the way, choose On hand only, 14 days or 30 days.
- Or click one of the Quick what-ifs to fill in a common change for you.
- Check the grid behind the drawer. Changed numbers show in purple, and the drawer says Previewing your changes in the table.
- Decide what to do with the preview: see Apply, save or discard.
While you preview, the Tune plan button turns purple and reads Tuning (preview), and a purple bar above the grid says You're previewing changes that aren't saved. You can close the drawer to look around; the preview stays until you apply, save or discard it. Click Edit on the bar to reopen the drawer.
What you can change
| Setting | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Network switch | Plans sends to that network, or leaves it out of this plan. | On or off |
| Target cover | Days of sales the network should hold after the send lands. | 1 to 365 days. Anything else is ignored. |
| Priority when short | Who gets more when there isn't enough for every network. Every network first gets enough to stay above its floor; priority splits the rest. | Lowest (0.5×), Low (0.8×), Normal (1×), High (1.5×), Highest (2×). When your Network rules use another value, it's listed too, such as Current (0.7×). |
| Keep for self-fulfilled orders | What your self-fulfilled orders sell in this many days, plus open orders and backorders, never leaves your warehouses. | 0 to 365 days of demand |
| Count stock on the way | Production and purchase orders due at your warehouses within this many days are planned as if already there. On hand only counts none of them. | On hand only, 14 days, 30 days, plus any other number already set in Network rules |
How these settings drive the numbers is explained in How a network's send is calculated and How stock is shared between networks. Floors, lead times, case rounding and the other rules aren't in this drawer; change them on the Network rules tab. See Set network rules.
Quick what-ifs
Each what-if fills in a common change. A message confirms it, such as Previewing "Q4 cover targets +15 d". Save it as a scenario or recalculate to apply.
| What-if | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Count stock due within 14 days | Treats production and purchase orders arriving at your warehouses within 14 days as stock you can send. |
| Prime Big Deal Days (FBA ×1.6) | Amazon FBA demand × 1.6. |
| TikTok creator push (FBT ×2) | TikTok FBT demand × 2. |
| Q4 cover targets +15 d | Every network's target days of cover + 15. |
| Protect self-fulfilled 35 d | Keeps 35 days of self-fulfilled demand at your warehouses. |
| Capacity −20% | Cuts every network capacity limit by 20%, for example when Amazon lowers this month's limit. |
A demand what-if shows on the network as a purple chip, such as demand ×1.6.
Capacity −20% has no preview, because capacity limits are only applied by a full calculation. The preview bar says Capacity at 80% of each limit is applied when you recalculate.
Favor a network over your own orders
One more what-if lives on the grid, not in the drawer. Click Filters above the grid and find When stock is short:
- Protect self-fulfilled orders (the normal setting): keep enough stock for the orders you ship from your own warehouses, and send only the rest.
- Favor Amazon FBA US, Favor WFS or Favor FBT, one for each selling network: let that network use the stock kept for self-fulfilled demand too.
Favoring a network previews in purple like the drawer's settings, and the SKU's Why these numbers drawer shows the units as − N released to a favored network. Only selling networks can be favored: Amazon AWD and other buffers, and transfers to your own warehouses, can't. On a scenario, or without Send Planner → Edit, the toggle is locked. Once applied, the choice wins over each network card's When stock is short setting; see Favoring a network.
The preview is an estimate
The purple numbers are worked out in your browser, so they're quick but partial:
- They cover only the SKUs on the grid page you're looking at. The bar says so: Purple numbers are previews for the 25 SKUs on this page. Apply to recalculate the whole plan with capacity limits, or save the changes as a scenario. The preview +N chip on the summary and the purple ±N on each network add up the same SKUs.
- Capacity limits aren't applied to the preview. Only a full recalculation applies them.
For exact numbers across the whole plan, apply the tuning or save it as a scenario.
What's paused during a preview
The numbers on screen aren't the plan's, so actions that use the plan wait until you apply or discard the tuning. Each one is greyed out with a reason that starts Apply & recalculate or Discard the tuning preview first:
- Draft shipments (drafts use the saved plan, not the preview)
- Review AI plan (the approval covers the saved plan, not the preview)
- Draft supplier POs (POs use the saved plan, not the preview)
- Allocate stock
- Editing a send quantity (edits go to the saved plan, not the preview)
Release allocations and Reset edits still work.
Apply, save or discard
Use the drawer's footer. With the drawer closed, the same buttons are on the purple bar above the grid; while the drawer is open, the bar says Apply, discard or save in the tuning panel → instead.
| Button | What happens |
|---|---|
| Apply & recalculate the plan (Apply & recalculate on the bar) | Starts a new calculation of the working plan with your tuning, including capacity limits. It runs in the background; see Recalculate the plan and fix calculation problems. |
| Save as scenario | Asks for a Name, then calculates a scenario with these settings in the background. The working plan doesn't change. Scenarios never allocate stock or create drafts; promote one to make it the working plan. The message says Scenario saved — it is calculating in the background. See Try a what-if with a scenario. |
| Discard changes (Discard on the bar) | Throws the tuning away and puts every setting back to the plan's. |
The apply and save buttons are greyed out until you change something (Change something first), and need the Send Planner → Edit permission.
When you apply tuning, it's saved with the working plan, not on the Network rules tab. Every later recalculation and send run keeps it, and it wins over the same setting on the Network rules tab. A purple Tuned chip next to the plan's freshness chip tells you the working plan carries tuning. The drawer also lists it under Already applied. To go back to your Network rules, see Reset to Network rules. For a change you want everywhere, such as a new standard target, set it on the Network rules tab instead of tuning it.
Reset to Network rules
When the working plan carries applied tuning, or the settings of a promoted scenario, the header shows a purple Tuned chip.
- Click Tuned. A This plan is tuned box lists each change, such as FBA US demand ×1.6 or Keep for self-fulfilled orders 14 days.
- Click Reset to Network rules. The working plan recalculates in the background with your Network rules alone. Send quantities you edited by hand still carry forward.
You can also click Reset to Network rules in the Already applied alert at the top of the Tune this plan drawer. The button is greyed out, with the reason, whenever Recalculate is, for example while a calculation is already running or without the Send Planner → Edit permission. Once the new plan is ready, the Tuned chip is gone.
