Set up packing slip rules
Four packing slip behaviours are controlled from Settings → Packing Slip Rules rather than from the template itself. They cover the things a packer needs to notice — a line that isn't pickable, a pickup order, an account with special handling, a brand that needs a note.
Every rule is off until you add one, apart from a highlight on pickup and click-and-collect shipping methods.
Before you begin
- These rules apply to every packing slip in your account. They aren't per store and they aren't per template.
- They only change what prints. Nothing here affects what's picked, allocated or invoiced.
- Three of the four need a matching placeholder in your Packing Slip template. The built-in template already carries them; a heavily rewritten one might not. Each section below names the one it needs.
Hide charge-only lines
Order lines whose description matches one of these are left off the packing slip entirely. Use it for anything the warehouse can't physically pick — shipping protection, insurance, gift wrap.
- Go to Settings → Packing Slip Rules.
- In Hidden line descriptions, type the description into Line descriptions to hide and press Enter. Repeat for each one.
- Click Save Changes.
The description has to match the whole line, though capitalisation and surrounding spaces are ignored. A partial word won't match.
This is the one rule that needs no placeholder — hidden lines never reach the items table.
Highlight a shipping method
When the order's shipping method contains one of these words, it prints in the colour you choose — the usual way to flag a pickup order the packer must set aside rather than hand to the courier.
- In Shipping method highlights, click Add highlight.
- Type the word into Shipping method contains — for example
click and collect. Matching ignores capitalisation. - Pick a Colour: Blue, Green, Purple, Orange or Red.
- Click Save Changes.
The first matching row wins, so put the most specific words at the top. Rows are matched in the order you see them.
With no rows, shipping methods print as plain text — the page says so: No highlights — shipping methods print as plain text.
Your template needs the styled shipping-method placeholder for the colour to appear. The built-in template uses it.
Highlight an address that needs attention
When any part of the shipping address contains one of these words, the customer name and address print highlighted. Use it for accounts that need special handling — a wholesale customer, a freight forwarder, a store transfer.
- In Address highlights, type the word into Address contains and press Enter.
- Click Save Changes.
Matching ignores capitalisation and looks at the whole address block, not just the name — so a keyword in the company line or street works too.
Your template needs the styled name or styled address-block placeholder for this to show.
Print a note under a brand's lines
Print a short note beneath every line of a given brand — most often sizing guidance, sometimes handling instructions.
- In Brand notes, click Add note.
- Enter the Brand — for example
Acme. - Enter the Note to print — for example
Sizes shown are US sizing. - Click Save Changes.
The brand has to match the product's brand exactly, though capitalisation is ignored. With no rows the page reads No brand notes — nothing extra prints under the line.
Your template needs the sizing-note placeholder inside the items loop. The default items table already includes it.
Save or discard
Save Changes and Discard in the top-right stay greyed out until you actually change something. Saving confirms with Packing slip rules saved, and the change applies to the very next packing slip printed.
