Add a custom field
Custom fields let you record data SKU.io doesn't capture out of the box — a customer's PO reference, a lot code, a delivery window — on every record of a given type. A field you define appears on that record's Custom Fields tab, and can show in the main details, in exports, and in PDF templates.
Before you begin
- You need permission to manage settings.
- Decide which record type the field belongs to: Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Warehouse Transfers, or Suppliers. Each type has its own set of fields.
Add the field
- Go to Settings → Custom Fields and pick the record type (for example, Sales Orders).
- Click Add Field.
- Enter a Field name — what your team will see on the record.
- Choose a Type:
- Text / Long Text — a short line or a multi-line note.
- Number / Decimal — whole numbers or amounts with decimals.
- Date / Date & Time — a calendar date, optionally with a time.
- Checkbox — a yes/no toggle.
- Dropdown — a fixed list of choices. Enter the Options, one per line.
- Optionally add a Description — it shows as a tooltip next to the field.
- Turn on Visible in details section to surface the field in the record's main details, not only on its Custom Fields tab.
- Click Create Field.
The field is now active and appears on every record of that type. To retire a field without losing past values, archive it — archived fields are listed under Show archived.
Next steps
- Create and manage users — control who can change settings.
- Import sales orders — custom fields can be populated in bulk on import.

Custom fields capture data SKU.io doesn't, on every record of a type. In Settings, under Custom Fields, pick Sales Orders and click Add Field. Name the field and pick a type — text, a number, a date, a checkbox, or a dropdown with your own options. Choose to show it in the details section, then create it. The field now appears on every sales order — on its Custom Fields tab, in your exports, and in your PDF templates.
