Export the close pack
The close pack is a month in one spreadsheet: a cover sheet with the month, its status and its sign-off, any overrides, the checklist outcomes, then one sheet per report. It's what you send to a client or an accountant once a month is signed off, or keep as the month's paper trail.
Before you begin
- You need the Accounting Sync permission (
accounting.sync), even for a month that's already closed. Without it, Export pack is greyed out and its tooltip reads You do not have permission to run close actions. See Who can do what in the close. - Check the month's state first. A Closed – restated month exports the figures it was last signed on, not the live ones. See Which figures the pack holds.
- A month that isn't closed exports as PRELIMINARY. See Exporting a month that isn't closed yet.
Steps
- Go to Accounting → Close.
- On the Year board, click the month's tile. The month drawer opens.
- Click Export pack in the drawer header. On a closed month it sits beside Re-check, and beside Re-sign-off too when the month is restated. Its tooltip reads Download the full report pack as one XLSX workbook — cover sheet, checklist outcomes and all 9 reports. On a month that isn't closed, it adds Open periods export as PRELIMINARY.
- Read the confirmation. Nothing downloads yet. The pack builds in the background, and you can leave the page while it does.
- Open the job tray from the top bar. Your export is listed as Export Month-End Close Pack: and the month, for example Export Month-End Close Pack: June 2026. Its progress counts through the nine reports.
- When the message Close pack ready — grab the download from the job tray. appears, click Download on the job's entry.
The file saves as a workbook named for the month and the moment it was built, such as
close-pack-2026-06-2026-11-06-13-57-23.xlsx, and opens in Excel, Numbers or Google
Sheets. For what each sheet holds, see
The close pack workbook and
Close pack: columns on every report sheet.
Export pack is also greyed out while the month reads Closing…, because the pack is being saved underneath you. Wait for the close to finish, then export.
Which figures the pack holds
| Month's state | The cover's Status | The report sheets hold |
|---|---|---|
| Open or In Review | Open or In Review, plus a PRELIMINARY row | Live figures at the moment you export |
| Closed or Hard-locked | Closed or Hard-locked | The latest signed revision, marked As at close |
| Closed – restated | Closed – restated | The latest signed revision, not the live figures |
The cover of a closed month also names the revision with Revision exported. After a re-sign-off it adds Latest sign-off, Re-signed by, Re-signed at and the Re-sign-off reason.
A Closed – restated month's report sheets carry the figures you last signed, and nothing on those sheets shows the change. The cover's Status is the only flag. So before you send a pack, check the month's drawer. If it reads Closed – restated, re-sign-off the month first, then export, so the pack holds the figures you're standing behind.
Only the latest revision exports. To read an earlier one, pick it in the Sign-off revision picker in the month's Report pack. See Read the month's reports.
Exporting a month that isn't closed yet
Exporting before you close is a normal way to send a draft pack for a client's review before signing it off. The pack is marked so nobody mistakes it for the final version:
- The cover carries a PRELIMINARY row reading Period is not closed — figures may still change.
- Every report sheet repeats that warning and is stamped Live instead of As at close.
Preliminary figures are worked out when you export, so two packs taken minutes apart can differ. A pack for a closed month holds the signed figures. It changes only when the month is re-signed.
Exporting a month you haven't started doesn't start its close. The month stays Open and the cover has no checklist. To get the checklist into the pack, start the close first.
Cancelling or recovering an export
- To cancel, click the stop button on the job's entry while it runs. A cancelled export leaves nothing to download.
- A failed export shows (FAILED) on its tray entry, with the reason underneath. Click Retry on that entry, or click Export pack in the drawer again.
- Starting another export is always safe. Each run writes its own file.
- A very large month can run out of time. An export is allowed ten minutes. Try it again later. If the same month keeps failing, contact support.
How long a download stays available
Export files are removed once they're more than a week old. After that the tray entry stays, but Download answers Export file is no longer available. Please regenerate the export. Export the month again. For a closed month you get the same signed figures, unless the month has been re-signed since, in which case you get the new revision. Save the workbook to your own files as soon as you download it.
Months you can't export
- A month that's still to come. SKU.io answers, for example, December 2026 is in the future. On the Year board these tiles read Not started.
- A month before your accounting start date. Following an old link to one answers, for example, December 2025 is before the accounting start date, so it is frozen history. There's nothing for a pack to report.
Next steps
- Re-sign-off a restated month: bring a restated month's pack up to date before you send it.
- Verify a closed month: check a pack you sent still matches the books.
- Read the month's reports: the same nine reports on screen.
- The close pack workbook: every sheet and row in the file.
