Build an open-to-buy plan
An open-to-buy plan turns your sales plan into a buying budget. You create a season, fill in planned sales, markdowns and ending stock for each category, and the grid works out what's left to buy each month.
Before you begin
- Your products are in categories (or brands) that match how you plan.
- You need permission to manage merchandise plans.
Steps
- Go to Inventory → Merchandise Planning.
- Click New Season, choose the Season and Year, and click Create season. The season's months become the grid's columns.
- Under Group by, choose Category or Brand.
- Click Seed, then Seed from forecast (or Seed from last year).
- Set the Recent demand window, pick the rows under Category rows to seed, and click Seed. Plan Sales fills in for each month.
- Type any Markdowns you plan for each month.
- Set ending stock in the EOP Inv row. Type it, or use its control to choose stock-to-sales or weeks of supply and enter the number.
- Read the Open-to-Buy row and Remaining to buy. Green means room to buy, amber means 10% or less is left, and red means over budget.
- To cap spending at a fixed amount, enter a Cash cap in a row's Remaining to buy cell. The budget becomes the smaller of the open-to-buy and your cap.
- Use Plan in to switch between Units, Cost $ and Retail $, and View by to see months or quarters.
Every change saves as you leave the cell.
